WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in the Panhandle youth and Juvenile Justice Systems. Representatives of law enforcement, county attorneys, public defenders, probation, schools, youth serving organizations, health and human service providers, faith organizations, citizens, community organizers, may be particularly interested.
WHY: Commissioners in all eleven counties have signed agreements to have a regional plan. The plan serves two purposes:
Guides development of local systems and resources including criteria for access to funding for Juvenile Justice.
A Violence Prevention plan is required by the Crime Commission in order to apply for those funds.
Creation of the statewide Juvenile Justice Coalition statewide strategic plan.
PROCESS:
There are six key steps to completing the Plan.
Community Capacity Inventory (CCI) is an online survey of programs and resources available to youth in the Panhandle to gain an understanding of how the Developmental Assets and YLS Risk Factors are being addressed in the Panhandle. Open November 19- 29, 2010. Notices will be sent.
Juvenile Justice Systems Point Analysis gives an overview of how the juvenile justice system works in our area. County data will be compiled and there will be a Systems Point Analysis meeting facilitated by Julie Rogers of the JJI. This meeting will be of importance to representatives from law enforcement, county attorneys, courts, and probation.
Graduated Response Assessmentis compiled by JJI and provides and picture of where programs and services in the Panhandle are helping youth at each level.
Community Stabilizing Efforts Review pulls together the System Point Analysis, the community Capacity Inventory and the Graduated response Assessment in a report that identifies what does and does not exist for services in the Panhandle. This will show the community framework in which juvenile services operate.
Priorities and Strategies are chosen by the community based on the Juvenile Justice Systems Analysis and Community Stabilizing Review.
Write the Plan and submit it to the Crime Commission for approval.
